About Marine Electric Systems
Annapolis-based marine electricians serving the Chesapeake
Marine Electric Systems is a marine electrical contractor based in Annapolis, Maryland, serving sailing yachts, motor yachts, catamarans, and sportfish across the Chesapeake Bay — Annapolis, Baltimore, the Eastern Shore, Northern Virginia, and the greater Washington DC area.
We specialize in the modern marine electrical platform: lithium house battery systems, high-output alternator installations, solar arrays, inverter/chargers, shore power, and complete marine electronics. We work to ABYC standards on every job and we know the Victron, ARCO, Epoch, and Mastervolt ecosystems cold.
What we do
Marine Electric Systems handles every phase of a marine electrical refit, from initial system design to commissioning:
- Lithium battery systems — LiFePO₄ house banks from 280 Ah to 1,840 Ah, designed around Epoch V2-T Elite, integrated with the Victron Cerbo GX
- High-output alternators — ARCO 175A, 250A, and 275A alternators with the Arco Zeus external regulator, sized for big lithium banks
- Inverter/chargers — Victron MultiPlus and Quattro units up to 15kVA, with full transfer switching and AC distribution
- Solar arrays — rigid and semi-flexible panels with Victron SmartSolar MPPT charge controllers
- Shore power — SmartPlug inlets, galvanic isolators, isolation transformers, ELCI breakers, all to ABYC E-11
- Marine electronics — Raymarine, Simrad, B&G, and Garmin chartplotter networks; radar, AIS, autopilot, and instrument installations
- Windlass and bow/stern thrusters — installation and motor service
- Marine air conditioning — install, service, and electrical integration
What makes us different
Marine electrical work is fundamentally different from house wiring or automotive electrical. Salt environment, vibration, galvanic corrosion, lightning risk, life-safety implications — every choice has consequences other trades don't have to think about. We've spent years building specifically in the marine context, and we work to ABYC standards because the standards exist for good reasons.
We design coherent systems, not collections of parts. A Victron Cerbo GX with VE.Can-equipped Epoch batteries, an Arco Zeus on a 275A alternator, and a Victron MultiPlus tied to a Lynx Distributor isn't seven products — it's one system, and the difference shows up the first time you have a problem at 2am in a quiet anchorage.
The brands we install
We're an authorized installer and preferred dealer for the brands we build with:
- Victron Energy — the foundation of nearly every refit we do
- ARCO Marine — preferred dealer for the Zeus regulator and high-output alternators
- Epoch Batteries — preferred dealer for the V2-T Elite Series
- Mastervolt — authorized installer for Mastervolt-equipped European boats
- Raymarine, Simrad, B&G — authorized retailer for the three major marine electronics platforms
Recent work
For a look at the kind of refit we're typically doing on the Chesapeake, see our recent project case studies on a Dufour 50, a Beneteau Oceanis 45, and a Leopard 48 catamaran.
