Blue Sea Switches & Accessories FAQ
Does a switch protect the circuit?
No. A switch only turns the load on and off; the circuit still needs a fuse or breaker sized to the wire. Make sure the switch is rated for the load current, and use a relay for heavy loads. Our circuit breakers cover the protection side.
Should I choose toggle or contura-style switches?
Start with what fits the panel you have. Toggles mount through a round hole, while contura-style rockers use a rectangular cutout and can carry labels and indicator lights. Mixing styles on one panel works but rarely looks clean.
Do exposed helm switches need protection?
On an open helm, rain and spray work their way into toggle switches and corrode the contacts. Switch boots and toggle guards help keep water out and prevent accidental bumps. If the panel itself is in rough shape, see electrical panels.
