ARCO Solenoids, Relays & Regulators FAQ
What's the difference between an isolated-base and a grounded-base solenoid?
A grounded-base solenoid completes its coil circuit through its metal mounting base. An isolated-base solenoid has a separate ground terminal and doesn't rely on the mount for ground. Installing the wrong type can leave the solenoid dead or create a ground path you didn't intend, so match the one you're replacing.
What does an outboard rectifier or voltage regulator do?
Many outboards make AC power from a stator. The rectifier converts it to DC for the battery, and the regulator keeps the charging voltage in a safe range. If your outboard isn't charging, or is overcharging and cooking batteries, this part is a common suspect. Match it to your engine make, model, and year.
