Blue Sea Systems — Marine Circuit Protection, Distribution & Panels
Blue Sea Systems makes the parts that sit between your batteries and everything they power: circuit breakers, fuse blocks, battery switches, busbars, distribution panels, and monitoring. It is one of the most common names you'll find behind the panel on recreational boats, and its catalog covers nearly every piece of a marine DC and AC distribution system.
Why Blue Sea Systems
The value of Blue Sea is breadth and consistency. Breakers, fuse holders, busbars, and switches are built to work together, so a panel, its feeders, and its circuit protection can come from one product family with matching mounting and terminal hardware. That makes it easier to build a system that is clean, labeled, and easy for the next electrician or surveyor to follow.
Panel Builds & DC System Upgrades
Good parts are only half of a safe electrical system. Wire sizing, overcurrent protection at the source, proper busbar and terminal selection, and clear labeling are what make a panel reliable and ABYC-compliant. We design and build complete DC and AC distribution systems with Blue Sea components, from a single added circuit to a full panel rebuild or lithium upgrade. Contact us for a panel design or electrical upgrade tailored to your boat.
Blue Sea Systems FAQ
Breaker or fuse: which should I use?
Both protect the wire. Breakers can be reset and double as switches, which makes them the usual choice for branch circuits on a panel. Fuses such as MRBF and Class T handle very high fault current in a small package, so they are common right at the battery and on inverter feeds. Shop fuse blocks & fuses.
How do I size a circuit breaker?
Size it to the wire it protects, not to the load. The breaker rating should not exceed the ampacity of the smallest conductor in that circuit. If you're adding a bigger load, the wire may need to be upsized first. Shop circuit breakers.
Which battery switch do I need?
It depends on how many banks you have and how they charge. A simple on/off switch per bank works for many boats; selector switches let you combine banks for emergency starting. With lithium, plan the switching around the battery's BMS. Shop battery management.
Can you build or rewire my panel?
Yes. We build Blue Sea panels and DC distribution throughout Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay. Call (410) 263-0807 or contact us.
