Raymarine Radar FAQ
Should I choose a radome or an open-array radar?
A radome is compact and light, which suits sailboats and smaller powerboats where mounting space and weight aloft are limited. An open array gives better target separation and range but needs a sturdy mount, more power, and clear space for the antenna to rotate.
Where should the radar be mounted?
Mount it high enough to see over the boat's own structure with a clear view all the way around, and keep it above crew head height. On sailboats that usually means a mast bracket or a stern arch or pole. Plan the cable run to the display before you pick the spot. See our electronic navigation installation page for how we approach it.
What does Doppler do on the Quantum 2?
Doppler processing color-codes targets that are moving toward you or away from you, so approaching boats stand out from the clutter. It makes busy channels and crossing traffic easier to read at a glance on your Axiom display.
