Raymarine Instruments FAQ
Do I need instrument displays if I have a chartplotter?
A chartplotter can show wind, depth, and speed, but dedicated instruments stay up when the plotter is busy on another page or switched off. They are easier to read at a glance from the helm and give you a backup if the plotter goes down.
What sensors do the displays need?
An instrument display only shows data; the sensors supply it. Depth and speed come from a hull transducer, wind from a masthead sensor on sailboats, and heading from a heading sensor or compass. Browse all Raymarine products for sensors.
Where should instrument displays be mounted?
Put them in the helmsman's line of sight, such as the pedestal or a mast pod on a sailboat. Keep them at least the manufacturer's compass safe distance from the steering compass, and leave room behind the panel for connectors and cable bends.
