Garmin Transducers FAQ
Transom, thru-hull, or in-hull mount?
Transom mounts are the easiest to fit and are common on trailerable outboard boats. Thru-hull mounts give the best performance on larger inboard boats but mean drilling below the waterline. In-hull mounts shoot through a solid fiberglass hull with no hole, but will not work through a cored section of hull.
Is a bronze thru-hull transducer right for my boat?
Bronze is the standard for fiberglass and wood hulls. Never put a bronze transducer in an aluminum hull, because the dissimilar metals will cause galvanic corrosion; use a plastic housing instead. On cored hulls, the core around the hole has to be sealed so water cannot get in.
Can you install a thru-hull transducer?
Yes. Anything that puts a hole below the waterline should be bedded and backed properly, and it is best done during a haul-out. We install throughout Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay. Call (410) 263-0807 or contact us.
