Ancor Heat Shrink Tubing FAQ
How do I pick the right size tubing?
The tubing has to slide over the largest part of the connection before shrinking, and shrink down snug on the smallest part. Check the expanded and recovered diameters on the listing against your lug or splice and the cable it's on. When in doubt, go one size up rather than forcing it.
Do I need adhesive-lined tubing?
Anywhere the joint could see moisture, yes. Adhesive-lined tubing seals the end of the connection as it shrinks, while plain tubing only covers it. For battery lugs and splices on a boat, adhesive-lined is the safe default.
What should I use to shrink it?
Use a heat gun. A lighter or torch scorches the tubing and the wire insulation and heats unevenly, which can leave the adhesive unsealed. Work from the middle out to push air out of the joint. Pair it with heat shrink terminals for a fully sealed connection.
