Ancor Terminals & Connectors FAQ

Should I use ring terminals or spade terminals?

Use ring terminals on screw and stud connections wherever you can. A ring stays on the stud even if the nut or screw backs off, while a plain spade can slide out. Save spades and disconnects for equipment that's built for them.

How do I tell which terminal fits my wire?

Terminals are color-coded by wire gauge range, and ring terminals are also sized by stud. Match both, then crimp with a tool made for that terminal type. A ratcheting crimper from crimp & strip tools gives a consistent, full crimp every time.

Is a butt connector OK for splicing wire?

Yes, a heat shrink butt connector crimped properly makes a sound, sealed splice. Keep splices out of the bilge where you can, and support the wire on both sides so the joint isn't carrying any strain.
