Which crimper do I need?
Pick a ratcheting crimper with dies made for the terminals you use. Heat shrink terminals need dies shaped so they crimp the barrel without cutting the insulation. Battery lugs need a separate, heavier tool made for large cable.
Why use a dedicated wire stripper?
A proper stripper removes the insulation cleanly without nicking or cutting strands. Every strand you lose reduces the wire's capacity and gives corrosion a place to start. Strip only enough to fill the terminal barrel.
Is a terminal kit a good place to start?
For most owners, yes. A kit gives you the common sizes of terminals and connectors in one box, so you're not stuck mid-job without the right one. Add bulk packs of the sizes you use most.
