Garmin Sonar Modules & LiveScope FAQ
Why use a sonar module instead of built-in sonar?
A module adds sonar to a chartplotter that has none, or adds sonar types the display cannot run on its own. It mounts out of sight and connects to the plotter over the network, so the plotter must be a networkable model. See our Garmin chartplotters.
What does LiveScope show?
LiveScope is live-scanning sonar that shows fish and structure moving in real time, rather than a history scrolling across the screen. It uses its own transducer, which you can find with our Garmin transducers.
What does a sonar module need for installation?
It needs a fused power feed, a network connection to the plotter, and the matching transducer. Mount it somewhere dry and ventilated. Network cables and switches are in our Garmin marine network collection.
