Why does pure sine wave matter?

Pure sine wave output matches the clean AC power you get from the grid. Cheaper modified sine inverters can make motors run hot or hum, and can cause trouble with microwaves, battery chargers for tools, and sensitive electronics. On a boat, pure sine is the safe choice for running whatever you plug in.

How do I size an inverter?

Total the wattage of everything you'll run at the same time, then check that the inverter's surge rating covers startup loads like pumps and compressors. Size the battery bank and DC cabling for the current the inverter will draw at full output. If you also want automatic charging and shore power switchover, consider a Mastervolt inverter/charger instead.

What should I know about installing an inverter?

Mount it in a dry, ventilated space close to the batteries so the heavy DC cables stay short, and fuse the positive cable near the battery.
