ARCO Starters FAQ

What do tooth count and rotation mean on a starter?

Tooth count is the number of teeth on the starter's drive gear, and rotation is the direction the starter turns. Both have to match your engine's flywheel and the starter you're replacing, or it won't engage properly. Count the teeth on your old starter and check its listing or tag before ordering.

My engine just clicks. Is it the starter?

Not always. A low battery, loose or corroded cable connections, or a failing solenoid can all cause a click with no crank. Check battery voltage and clean every connection first, and look at solenoids and relays if the problem is upstream of the starter.
