What is a Freedom Combox used for?
A Combox lets a Freedom inverter/charger communicate on an NMEA 2000 or RV-C network, so its status can show up on compatible displays. Confirm that your inverter model and your display both support it before ordering.
Do the DC cables to an inverter need a fuse?
Yes. The positive cable needs a fuse as close to the battery as possible (ABYC generally calls for within 7 inches), sized to protect that cable. If you aren't using a cable kit with a fuse included, see fuse blocks & fuses.
What does a transfer relay do?
A transfer relay switches AC loads between sources, such as shore power and an inverter, so the two are never connected together. Inverter/chargers have one built in; a standalone inverter feeding boat wiring needs some form of transfer switching. See Xantrex inverters for standalone units.
