Garmin Trolling Motors FAQ
How do I choose shaft length?
It depends on how high your bow sits above the waterline. The prop and lower unit need to stay submerged when the bow rises in chop, so measure from the mounting surface to the waterline before picking a length.
What battery and wiring does a trolling motor need?
Trolling motors draw high current, so they usually run from a dedicated battery bank at the voltage the motor is built for. Use heavy-gauge wire sized for the run length and protect the circuit with the breaker size the manufacturer specifies.
Does the built-in transducer show on my chartplotter?
Yes. The built-in transducer feeds sonar to a compatible Garmin display, which saves mounting a separate transducer at the bow. See our Garmin fishfinder combos for displays.
