Ancor NMEA 2000 Cables FAQ
Can I add a new device to my existing network?
Usually, yes. Add a tee into the backbone where it's convenient and run a drop cable to the new device. Keep exactly one terminator at each end of the backbone, and don't add a tee beyond a terminator.
Where should the power feed connect?
Power the backbone through a power cable and tee from a fused, switched supply. On a larger network, feeding it near the middle rather than at one end helps keep voltage even along the backbone. Only connect one power feed unless the network is specifically designed for more.
Will these cables work with my brand of electronics?
NMEA 2000 is a shared standard, so devices from different makers can talk on the same backbone. Some brands use their own connector style and need an adapter cable to join a standard backbone. If you're tying several systems together, our electronic navigation service can lay out the network.
