Ancor Battery Cable
Ancor Battery Cable in Annapolis
Ancor tinned marine battery cable in red, black, and yellow, sold by the foot or on spools. Battery cable carries the highest currents on the boat, so it has to be sized for both the load and the length of the run, and fused close to the battery.
Call (410) 263-0807 for help sizing cable for an inverter, windlass, or thruster. We run and terminate battery cable throughout Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay.

Ancor Battery Cable FAQ
Why use tinned battery cable instead of bare copper?
Tinned copper resists corrosion. Bare copper strands blacken in salt air and the corrosion wicks up inside the insulation, which adds resistance and heat right where you need the most current. Tinned cable lasts far longer in a boat.
What do I need to terminate battery cable?
You need battery lugs sized for both the cable gauge and the stud, a crimp tool made for large lugs, and heat shrink to seal the end. A loose or poorly crimped lug on a high-current cable can get hot enough to melt. Lugs are in terminals & connectors and crimpers in crimp & strip tools.
How do I measure the length for sizing?
Measure the round trip: the positive run from the battery to the equipment plus the negative run back. That total length, along with the current and how much voltage drop the equipment can tolerate, sets the gauge. Long runs to a windlass or thruster often need heavier cable than people expect.
