Victron Energy’s Quattro-II is also a combined inverter and charger. It can accept two AC inputs and automatically connect to the active source. Its many features include a true sine wave inverter, adaptive charging, hybrid PowerAssist technology, and multiple system integration features such as three- or split-phase operation and parallel operation. Keep reading to learn more about the world of combined marine inverters and chargers.
The Quattro-II has Multiple Outputs
The Quattro-II can be connected to two independent AC sources, for example, shore-side power and a generator or two generators. The Quattro-II will automatically connect to the active source. The main output has no-break functionality. If a grid failure or shore or generator power is disconnected, the Quattro-II takes over the supply to the connected loads. This happens in less than 20 milliseconds, so computers and other electronic equipment will continue to operate without disruption. The second output is live only when AC is available on one of the inputs of the Quattro-II. Loads that should not discharge the battery, such as air-conditioning or a water heater, can be connected to this output.
PowerAssist
The Quattro-II will prevent a limited AC source overload, such as a generator or shore power connection. First, battery charging will automatically be reduced when otherwise an overload would occur. The second level will boost the output of a generator or shoreside supply with power from the battery.
Inverter Switch
The Quattro switches to inverter operation when no AC sources are available. The inverter output is also 120V single-phase. In inverter mode, the Quattro-II 2x120V internally connects both lines L1 and L2 together to provide 120VAC to loads on either output. Therefore, both sides of a distribution panel will be supplied with 120V in all connection circumstances. However, 240VAC is only available when the Quattro is supplied by a split phase 120/240VAC source. This prevents heavy loads such as water heaters or 240V air conditioners from discharging the battery.
Additional Features
You can run up to six Quattros in parallel for seemingly infinite power. The Quattro also offers an additional power input for those with multiple power connections, like a generator. Aside from its ability to invert, the Quattro’s dual AC inputs and outputs appeal to consumers. Seamlessly switch from shore to generator power without interrupting computers and other sensitive components. As with many Victron components, you can remotely access settings to monitor and adjust as needed.
