Victron 48V Electrical System Refit – J/46 Performance Cruiser

This J/46 sailboat has received a full electrical system refit, transforming its energy system into a high-performance, modern setup built for efficiency, reliability, and offshore readiness.

At the core of the upgrade is a Victron Multiplus II 48V/5000W/120V inverter-charger, delivering robust AC power and smart charging capabilities for seamless onboard power management. This system ensures efficient energy use whether connected to shore power or operating off-grid.

Power storage has been dramatically upgraded with six Victron 24V 200Ah lithium batteries, providing a total of 28.8 kWh of storage capacity. These lithium batteries offer rapid charging, high discharge rates, and long cycle life, making them ideal for extended cruising and heavy energy loads.

A Victron Lynx Smart BMS (Battery Management System) ensures safe, balanced charging and real-time system monitoring, while also integrating seamlessly with Victron’s ecosystem for full visibility and control through remote monitoring.

Charging power is maximized with twin 48V 130-amp American Power high-output alternators, providing a combined 260 amps of charging current at 48V. These alternators are engineered to keep up with the demands of the lithium bank, allowing for faster recharge times under engine power.

This electrical refit equips the J/46 with a reliable, modern power system suited for offshore passagemaking, liveaboard comfort, and extended time away from the dock.
